A helicopter assigned to the Fairview wildfire crashed while attempting to land at the Banning Municipal Airport on Saturday, Sept. 10, injuring all three people aboard.

The helicopter crashed near the airport just before 4 p.m., said Rob Roseen, a spokesman for the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. Three people were aboard the privately-owned aircraft — one pilot and two fire personnel.

They were taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, authorities said. The helicopter crashed on private property near the airport.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
